Kōrero mō ngā tūranga | About the Roles
We have openings for a mix of Analysts and Senior Analysts to join us on a permanent or fixed-term basis. Two of these roles will be providing parental leave cover through to February 2026 and May 2026.
Our team is responsible for advising the Government on the fiscal strategy and New Zealand's macroeconomic policy frameworks. This includes a mix of fast-paced and high-profile policy advice through the Budget process or in response to new developments and shocks, as well as long-term stewardship work.
These roles will lead or contribute to multiple projects, tailored to the skills and interests of successful applicants. You will have a varied and challenging work programme, with regular exposure to and engagement with senior leadership and plenty of opportunities to learn and develop on the job.
Ō pūmanawa | About You
Across all roles, we are seeking people with:
- An interest in what's happening in the macroeconomy - an economics background is advantageous but is not essential.
- Critical thinking and strong analytical ability.
- Enthusiasm for developing policy analysis skills in a new area.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex issues and concepts clearly and succinctly.
- Strong relationship building skills and the ability to establish trust and influence.
- An ability to operate in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- An ability to work with others to develop solutions to complex problems.
- An inclusive, team-player attitude.
As a signal, we would expect individuals applying for the analyst roles to have upwards of 2 years' relevant experience in the public sector or elsewhere, and people applying for the senior analyst roles to have at least 5 years' experience. We also expect our senior analysts to have experience in leading projects and delivering through others (e.g. overseeing and coaching other team members).

Appointing salary for the Analyst role will be between $90,041 and $105,930 per annum, and for the Senior Analyst role it will be between $126,612 and $148,955 per annum. This is based on skills and experience and is inclusive of KiwiSaver. The roles are based in Wellington.
