Intelligence Analyst (Senior Customs Officer Grade 1) at New Zealand Customs Service, Auckland

We are looking for a motivated person to join our Customs Intelligence unit in the Tactical and Operational team. You will have either knowledge of Customs / the border environment or have experience in Intelligence.
The Tactical and Operational team are responsible for a range of tasks including working closely with internal and external partners, providing operational support to disrupt organised criminal groups operating at our border and the risk assessment of illicit goods and people. They also support the Illicit Tobacco Team in the investigation and prosecution of illicit tobacco, revenue and asset recovery.
You will be a part of the wider Intelligence, Investigations and Enforcement group and report to the Supervising Customs Officer of your team. You will generally work within regular hours - Monday to Friday.
The role is Auckland based and the salary range is $67,008 - $83,874.

- You will have a high level of attention to detail
- You have experience in applying the Intelligence Cycle including risk management processes
- You have a natural curiosity and talent for identifying patterns and anomalie
- You have experience working with large data sets and using analytical tools like Nexus, I2 Notebook etc.
- You understand information security principles (classifications, caveats, handling and sharing of information)
- You thrive working under pressure
- You love building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- You are an experienced report writer who produces high-quality intelligence reporting
- You are comfortable giving briefings to all levels
Ideally you will have intelligence experience, worked as an analyst and have the ability to learn the operational environment at Customs. OR you may have a really good understanding of Customs operational areas and are willing to upskill in Intelligence processes.
This role is intellectually challenging and requires individuals who are conscientious and adaptable and comfortable interpreting legislation. Senior Customs Officers must take responsibility in managing their own and others' skills, knowledge and expertise to ensure a multi-skilled team approach.

For this role, you must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance to 'Top Secret' level.
(*) A New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last ten years, (including ten years ago from the date of this application) and resides in New Zealand at time of application.

A New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last ten years, (including ten years ago from the date of this application) and resides in New Zealand at time of application who has travelled out of New Zealand for short periods of time i.e. > 6 months in one of the following countries: Australia, United Kingdom, United States or Canada and can provide police certificates from those countries for the period of absence.
You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level. Already having Top Secret clearance is a benefit, but not a requirement.
Due to the nature of Customs work you must have a clear Police record. Successful applicants are also required to pass a medical assessment and drug test and must hold a full NZ Drivers' licence.
