A great place to work. With great work to do.
Ours is a meaningful and impactful role, as a kaitiaki of the financial services in Aotearoa. We oversee a market that does right by everyone, ensuring better outcomes for all New Zealanders. Our role as a kaitiaki is brought to life by our values; Look to the Horizon, Help the Team Work, Make the Calls and Open Hearts, Open Minds.
Te Tūranga | The Role
Often, it's the business model within a financial services organisation that can lead to harm for consumers or markets. We've recognised the importance of business model analysis and created this new role which will play an integral part of our supervisory approach.
Through your analysis, we will better understand the risks and identify actions we can take to address them. You'll be taking the lead on the undertaking of business model analysis for the FMA which will involve assessing the viability and sustainability of business models, developing standard metrics to provide consistency and peer group comparison along with sector-specific metrics. This role will take into consideration the changing external environment on business models, such as changes in market structure, macroeconomic developments, asset and commodity prices and climate related risks.
He kōrero mōu | About you
This is a new, stand-alone role, reporting to our Manager, Market Economics but will also work closely with various Executive roles within FMA. We see this as an intermediate/senior analyst role and would suit someone with at least 3 years' experience in a relevant role.
You will need to either have experience or be able to demonstrate your ability in business model assessments, financial analysis and modelling using a variety of analysis including competitive, scenario and vulnerability analysis.
We see you coming from either an analyst/strategy/research role within a corporate finance/investment banking or management consulting background and might be either studying towards or have gained your CFA.
This can be a complex environment, so your ability to evaluate complex information with both conceptual and analytical thinking will be key.
It's the way you get things done that will make you successful - the relationships you develop and the stakeholders you influence. Your drive, curiosity and confidence will all be put to good use in this 'greenfields' role.
You're not expected to have 100% of these skills. At FMA a growth mindset is at the heart of our culture, so if you have most of these things in your toolbox, we would love to hear from you.
Ngā painga | What we offer
We offer some great benefits including a 4% KiwiSaver contribution, health and life insurance cover, paid leave over the Christmas period, a generous $1,500 refer a friend bonus as well as an ability to swap public holiday leave with other days that mean more to you. Additionally, we have exceptional learning and development opportunities including access to leadership development, technical training, and external coaching.
At the FMA we're committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic self to work each day. We offer a range of wellness and social activities designed to support our people with aspects of their personal and professional lives and genuinely connect with their colleagues.
