About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Clinical Nurse Manager (Central
Community Mental Health) to join our team. As a key member of the Health NZ Te
Whatu Ora Te Tai o Poutini West Coastnursing leadership team, you will
play a vital role in providing advanced clinical leadership and operational
management to ensure high-quality, integrated, and sustainable care. You will
work closely with Operational Managers, the Nurse Director (Operations), and
other nursing leaders to align care delivery with Health NZ - s vision and
values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide advanced clinical and professional leadership, ensuring safe, effective, ethical, and culturally competent care.
- Lead a high standard of professional, legal, and ethical practice, prioritizing cultural safety and adherence to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
- Drive evidence-based clinical decision-making and professional development within the team.
- Ensure compliance with all Health NZ - s policies and procedures.
- Manage clinical risk, escalate issues appropriately, and ensure patient safety.
- Lead and promote an environment that fosters accountability, autonomy, and excellence in mental health care.
- Oversee the Central Community Mental Health Team, including nurses, support workers, and allied health clinicians.
- Ensure an efficient, positive, and sustainable work environment, maintaining safe staffing levels and workforce planning.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to promote integrated, patient-centered care.
- Support the development of the workforce, including recruitment, retention, and career progression strategies.
- Drive quality improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with national andlocal healthcare strategies, KPIs, and performance targets.
- Act as a change agent, supporting and implementing sustainable service improvements.
About you
Key Requirements
- NZ Registered Nurse with a current practicing certificate.
- Proven experience in clinical and operational leadership within a mental health setting.
- Strong understanding of professional, ethical, and legal healthcare standards.
- Expertise in evidence-based mental health care, risk management, and service integration.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Commitment to equity of health outcomes for Māori and Pacific peoples.
- Ability to manage resources effectively and ensure alignment with strategic healthcare goals.
- Experience in service improvement and workforce development initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- New Zealand Registered Health Professional with a current Annual Practising Certificate with no conditions on practice that may prevent the ability to fulfil requirements of the role.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification - minimum is a Postgraduate Diploma or working toward the same.
- Minimum 3-5 years - post-registration experience.
- Demonstrated leadership and management ability and coaching and mentorship ability.
- Demonstrated financial acumen/budgeting.
- Completion of, or personal commitment to undertake, cultural competency training.
- Ability to work with children.
- Full - clean - NZ driver - s license and the ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
- Computer literacy (i.e., Microsoft suite).
