Mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
Our Wellbeing, Health and Safety (WHS) approach at ACC focuses on creating an environment where our people can thrive, bringing their best each day to achieve great outcomes for kiritaki and whānau.
We are developing a worker centric health and safety approach based around engagement, consultation, and collaboration to achieve great outcomes for our kaimahi and our organisation. By building strong and effective relationships with managers and employees at all levels of the organisation, you'll support them to adopt and progress effective wellbeing, health and safety practices.
This role will have a key focus on developing and maintaining the health and safety systems, processes and approach that support great wellbeing and safety outcomes for our people. This includes responsibility for overseeing the delivery of our Accredited Employer Programme requirements (as a member of the AEP), including preparation for, and leading our AEP audits.
You will help people to understand and make sense of current wellbeing, health and safety thinking and ideas, turning these concepts into reality through strong communication, influencing and problem-solving skills.
Working closely with our broader WHS team, this role involves supporting and guiding our health and safety committees, as well as designing and delivering wellbeing and safety initiatives.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting our wellbeing health and safety committees and other worker engagement activity
- Providing expert advice on health and safety matters including hazard and risk management, risk assessment and wellbeing health and safety by design
- Overseeing Accredited Employer Programme requirements including our health and safety management system, audits and assurance
- Overseeing employee injury management, rehabilitation and return to work for kaimahi, including a close working relationship with our Third-Party Administrator
- Developing processes, templates and systems that support health and safety management across the organisation
- Delivering engaging training and presentations, and communicating effectively to build capability across the organisation
- Providing expertise and support across all levels of the organisation to support a risk-based approach to health and safety management
- Supporting our data-driven approach through reporting and research
- Working collaboratively with other team members, and the wider organisation to ensure a consistent and aligned approach to wellbeing, health and safety

Mōu | About you
You'll be a health and safety practitioner of the future, passionate about engagement, collaboration and systems thinking. Your strengths will include communication, engagement and influencing across a wide range of audiences
With an eye for detail and processes you'll be able to translate that into systems, and language that people can understand and implement.
You'll be able to work without close supervision, demonstrate initiative and exercise sound judgement and decision making.
In addition, you'll have:
- Significant experience in providing health, safety and wellbeing advice and support at a senior level within a large and complex organisation
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the Accredited Employer Programme requirements, with experience in audits and assurance
- A relevant tertiary qualification would be well regarded
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in health and safety risk management
- Demonstrated expertise in current wellbeing, health and safety practice, including knowledge and application of relevant legislation, contemporary thinking and emerging trends
- Effective problem-solving, risk management and analytical skills
- Experience in employee injury management, rehabilitation and return to work
- Competency in tikanga Māori and te reo Māori would be valued.

The base salary range for this role is $101,287 - $142,993 with appointment depending on skills and experience with a generous 9% super contribution.
