Tohu Whenua: Landmarks that tell our stories is a tourism and regional economic development programme that connects New Zealanders and international visitors with Aotearoa New Zealand's cultural heritage by promoting places of historical significance that offer high quality visitor experiences. It is a joint national initiative of Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage (MCH), the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) and Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga (HNZPT) with support from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment Hīkina Whakatutuki (MBIE) and Te Puni Kokiri Ministry of Māori Development (TPK).
The programme currently operates in four regions (Te Tai Tokerau Northland, Te Tai Poutini West Coast, Waitaha Canterbury and Otago) with a goal to roll out across Aotearoa New Zealand. Working with iwi and community partners, Tohu Whenua seeks to launch historical and cultural sites of significance across the Manawatū-Whanganui region as part of the network.
Tohu Whenua is seeking a Pou Whakahaere Kaupapa Project Manager to manage iwi and community engagement, lead the site selection process, coordinate the development of storytelling material and organise launch events. The role is part of a small team based in Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga and will work closely with regional staff from the partner agencies. The role will report to the Kaiwhakahaere Hōtaka Programme Manager, Tohu Whenua.
