Mō te tūnga | About the role

 

NZ Police provide Wellness Support Services to Police staff throughout NZ. Our Wellness Advisors provide a variety of services including activities and interventions to minimize the impact of trauma and build resilience.

We are expanding our Wellness Service by 1 fixed term Wellness Advisor based at the Royal New Zealand Police College (RNZPC). This is specifically to accommodate supporting the additional 500 recruits Police expect to train over the next 12 months.

If you are a Registered Social Worker, Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Counsellor with relevant professional body membership, experience in mental health and are looking for a change that would suit this fixed term opportunity then we are keen to hear from you.  

 

The role is specific to the support of recruits during their initial training and includes:

  • Wellbeing screening, providing brief mental health and psychosocial interventions.  
  • Enabling recruits to access internal/ external resources.
  • Providing advice to Recruit trainers on a range of topics related to managing Recruit wellbeing.
  • Building resilience and promoting wellbeing through education to adults as individuals and groups

  • Able to confidently assess adults for wellbeing and mental health risks.
  • Confident in providing psychoeducation to adults/groups. 
  • Skilled in brief psychologically informed interventions.
  • Calm under pressure with an organised and flexible approach that can accommodate a range of tasks despite unexpected demands.
  • Confident in working autonomously and still be a team player.
  • Self-assured but approachable in style with a sense of humour that will mean you find it easy to establish and maintain relationships.

 

 

Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements

 

  • Professional qualification (Social Work, Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Counselling) 
  • Must have current registration and practicing certificate and /or professional body membership where required.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years post grad experience in mental health assessment.

 

 Additional Information:

  • Must reside in the Wellington District and work on site at Porirua.
  • Full time, 40 hours per week
  • NZ Police pays for your annual practicing certificate, an allowance for being on call should it be required, allowances if travelling overnight and monthly external professional supervision. 
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required should an additional training complex be established.  
  • An orientation will be provided along with ongoing Team Leader and Peer support.
  • Your Team is located across the Lower North and South Island, so it is essential that you comfortable with using technology to join with meetings (or being willing to learn) and confident working in supported isolation.

Utu ā-tau | Salary 

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $95,057 and $100,626 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
