Digital Engineer

Support the Technology that Keeps NZ Skies Safe!

Queenstown Airport | Full-Time, Permanent | Salary range: $115,536 – $161,412

Why Join Us?

By joining us, you will be part of a team where meaningful work, collaboration and innovation come together to help keep New Zealand’s skies safe and secure.

At the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand, we are constantly evolving to meet the demands of a changing environment and the aviation industry. Recent legislative changes, along with an organisational realignment, have opened exciting new opportunities across the Authority.  These changes are part of a broader effort to better position our teams for the future by enabling us to be more collaborative, efficient and effective in everything we do.

As we step confidently into our role as a modern regulator, we are embracing intelligence-led, risk-based approaches that help us make a real difference for our people and the communities we serve – with a strong value-for-money ethos. We’re also committed to enabling aviation participants to support economic growth in New Zealand's aviation sector.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Digital Engineer to join our Digital Delivery and Support team based at Queenstown Airport.

In this role, you'll be the guardian of our critical systems and infrastructure requiring management and monitoring — ensuring everything from operating systems to cloud environments runs smoothly, securely, and reliably.

You’ll be the trusted point of contact for frontline staff, enabling them to deliver vital work with the right technology behind them. This will mean close partnership and relationships with our frontline staff are essential.

Some travel to Dunedin and Invercargill offices is required, so a full, clean NZ driver’s licence is essential.

The salary band for this position goes from $115,536 to $161,412 with a target starting salary of $135,197. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader Authority for the same or similar roles.

What We’re Looking For

✅ A Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) with practical experience in systems, networks, or cloud engineering.
✅ Ideally, VMWare Certified Professional and ITIL v4 qualifications (or similar).
✅ Previous hands-on experience in a System Engineering role.
✅ Strong communication skills — able to work confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences.
✅ Self-motivated, proactive, and committed to building relationships and facilitation of solving problems independently.
