Our Emerging Professionals Programme | Te Reanga Pito Mata runs over 24 months with three 8-month rotations within the selected area of specialisation and brings some of the top emerging talent from across the motu together with the best people from NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA). Through the work that you do, you'll get the chance to improve and enhance the transport network and systems across Aotearoa.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity - Media, Communications and Political Science
Te Waka Kōtuia - Engagement and Partnerships and Te Mahau - Customer and Services both play a key role in how NZTA connects with central and local government, communities, and industry. As an Emerging Professional in this programme, you will gain exposure to high-quality advisory work, public communications, and engagement with a range of stakeholders. You will work closely with experienced professionals, develop your writing and analytical skills, and contribute to meaningful projects that support NZTA's objectives.

As an Emerging Professional in this programme, you will gain exposure to high-quality advisory work, public communications, and engagement with a range of stakeholders. You will work closely with experienced professionals, develop your writing and analytical skills, and contribute to meaningful projects that support NZTA's objectives.
As an Emerging Professional in this stream, you'll have the opportunity to rotate through and gain experience in one or more of the below areas:
- Ministerial Services - Supporting Ministers by providing timely, high-quality advice, drafting responses to parliamentary and official requests, and coordinating information flow within NZTA.
- Channels - Shaping how we communicate with the public through digital platforms, media, and internal channels to ensure clear and effective messaging.
- Communications and Engagement - Helping to build relationships with stakeholders, craft compelling stories about NZTA's impact, and engage communities in our work.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:'
- A bachelor's degree or higher in Media, Communications, or Political Science
- Have graduated within the last three years
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and concisely
- Strong personal and cultural values that drive your performance and commitment'
- The desire to collaborate and engage with a broad range of people
- A desire to learn and gain new skills and knowledge
- Natural curiosity around how things are done and how to make things better'
- A pro-active approach.'
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.'
