About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga
- Permanent, part-time
As an Education Support Worker, you will play a critical role in our region’s Learning Support team by providing effective, efficient and equitable support for the benefit of children and young people to achieve specific educational goals in conjunction with early learning centres and lead workers.
Salary range: $28.03 and $37.10 per hour + 3% kiwi saver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake
To be successful you will need:
- Experience in working with pre-schoolers and/or children with additional learning needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with children, whānau and education providers across a diverse range of early childhood settings.
- Experience working in Māori-medium settings or the ability to work across Māori informed practice models would be desirable.
- Te reo Māori understanding and capability would be advantageous
- The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tirirti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
- To be available to work during school hours.
- To have a full driver licence and your own vehicle.
- To be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
- The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake
Te Mahau | Te Tai Whenua (Central) is a frontline group within Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education. Our frontline groups collectively provide leadership and integrated services to the sector and others. This includes services such as learning support and education advice, and regulation functions for schools and early learning services.
Learning Support is a critical part of the Te Mahau | Te Tai Whenua (Central) Group in the Ministry. We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.
Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, whānau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and Māori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning outcomes and promote social inclusion.
