Clinical or Health Psychologist at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Waitematā, Auckland

  • An excellent opportunity for a part time role providing high quality psycho-oncology support to our Waitemata cancer patients.
  • Work across multiple Waitemata locations in a supportive and tight knit team of psychologists and social workers, with flexible working arrangements when needed

About the Role

As a Cancer Support Service Psychologist, you will:

· Deliver psychological assessments and interventions tailored to support patients who either have a confirmed diagnosis of cancer, or high suspicion of cancer, who are going through active treatment.

· You will work with patients who have moderate to high mental health needs in the context of their cancer diagnosis

· Work alongside Cancer Support social workers in our small tight-knit team, as well as clinical nurse specialists, allied health clinicians, surgeons, oncology teams, radiation teams, palliative care teams, and pain specialists, contributing your expertise to a dynamic and collaborative environment.

· Innovate and develop service models, ensuring our patients benefit from the latest evidence-based practices.

· Support research and quality improvement initiatives that advance our understanding and treatment of cancer.

· Provide consultation and training to other clinical staff, championing the role of psychology in cancer support.

About the Team/Service/ Location

· Our Cancer Support Service: Psychology and Social Work Team are a tight-knit and supportive group of 6 social workers and psychologists who provide evidence based assessment and interventions for people over the age of 16 who are being treated for cancer within all tumour streams and haemotology.

· The purpose of our service is two-fold: both to assist people in coping with their diagnosis and treatment, and also to ensure that they are able to access their treatment in a timely and equitable manner, ensuring that we remove as many barriers to treatment (either psychological or social) as we can.

· We work across clinics at multiple sites within the Waitemata District, including North Shore Hospital, Waitakere Hospital, Hibiscus Coast and Warkworth.

· We work within the wider Cancer Service at Waitematā which includes clinical nurse specialists, and have close relationships with the other regional Cancer Support Teams in Counties Manukau, Te Toka Tumai, and Te Tai Tokerau Districts.

About you

We’re looking for a dedicated professional who:

· Is a registered clinical or health psychologist (or eligible for registration) with the New Zealand Psychologists Board. You will be joining an experienced team with three senior psychologists, we are happy to consider a new graduate or early career psychologist.

· Has expertise or a keen interest in cancer support and its psychological dimensions.

· Thrives in a multidisciplinary setting, bringing strong collaboration and communication skills.

· Is committed to patient-centred care and integrating evidence-based psychology into healthcare.

· Embraces innovation, research, and service improvement.
