About the Role

Senior House Officer full-time positions available at Health NZ (Nelson Marlborough) at Nelson Hospital. These positions are suitable for PGY2 and above and commence in January 2026. There are numerous roles within different specialities including relief (covering all specialities).

As a Senior House Officer, you will assess and admit all admissions, perform physical examinations, implement treatment plans, maintain clinical records and attend weekly meetings to name a few.

The hours are 8.00am to 4.00pm daily with long days 4.00pm to 10.00pm. Night shifts will be 10.00pm to 8.00am. Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) are 8.00am to 10.00pm or 8.00am to 4.00pm. Admission shifts 2.30pm to 10.30pm.  

The runs available are O&G Diploma, Paediatric Diploma, Emergency, Psychiatry, Psychogeriatrics, Community (Urgent Care, Hospice, GP, GP Rural, Comm Psychiatry), Relief plus if available General Surgery, Surg/Vascular, Orthopaedics, General Medicine, Geriatrics, Cardiology, Gynae/Ophthalmology and ENT/Urology.

Our team of 50 House Officers within 120 RMO - s work together to provide team based services to the patients of Nelson Marlborough.

About you

As a Senior House Officer, you:

  • Need to be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand,
  • need to meet Immigration New Zealand requirements to be eligible to live and work in New Zealand,
  • will enjoy being part of a team, and contribute your medical knowledge across all disciplines,
  • must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid NZ visa at the time of applying.
