About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Medical Oncology Vocational Registrar within our Cancer Centre for the 2026 training year.

The Regional Cancer Centre is associated with a large Tertiary Hospital in Hamilton, and is New Zealand’s second largest cancer treatment facility. You will join a dynamic team of 8 Medical Oncologists, 10 Radiation Oncologists, 10 Haematologists and 5 Palliative Care Physicians managing all aspects of solid tumours and lymphomas. You will work alongside 2 Medical Oncology and 6 Radiation Oncology advanced Trainees as well as 3 Rotating Registrars in Medical Oncology.

The close association with Waikato’s tertiary teaching hospital involves the successful candidate in the multidisciplinary model of modern oncology practice and provides the following opportunities:

  • Comprehensive experience in the management of the broad spectrum of solid tumours and lymphoma
  • Structured, well supported training program
  • Experience in Clinical Audit and Clinical Research underpinned by a well-staffed clinical research unit involved in phase I, II & III trials.
  • Teaching of junior registrars, house officers and Medical students
  • Possibility of a research fellow position for suitable candidates
  • Internet access to major oncology journals and resources
  • Local and International conference attendance

Your primary responsibility will be for the care of Medical Oncology outpatients and in-patients including patients undergoing autologous stem cell transplant.

About you

As an Medical Oncology Advanced Trainee, you will be………

  • Minimum of 3 years of hospital based training in Internal Medicine
  • Have completed FRACP part 1 examination, MRCP or equivalent
  • Previous experience in Medical Oncology, Haematology or Palliative Care is desirable
  • Registered or eligible to work in New Zealand
