About the Role

Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti is pleased to open applications for an advanced trainee in our Obstetric & Gynaecological Department here at Gisborne Hospital, Tairāwhiti. Our vision is “Working together for a Healthier Tairāwhiti” so this means you will enjoy contributing to a supportive team environment with our highly experienced and committed Obstetricians, as well as House Officers and the many other multi-disciplinary teams and departments.

As an obstetric & gynaecological registrar you will have the opportunity to develop skills in Women’s Health. The department consists of six Consultants in obstetrics & gynaecology as well as specialist nurses. As part of your duties you will participate in acute admissions, maternity, theatre and outpatient clinic management, giving you exposure to a wide range of medical presentations and procedures. There are also a number of educational opportunities including journal club, protected teaching and clinical skills sessions.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The O&G service at Hauora Tairāwhiti is a small, dynamic team looking for an energetic registrar to join the service. This role will work collaboratively and cohesively with the other team members to provide effective services for the Tairāwhiti region. The department is hospital based and provides a mix of inpatient, emergency and outpatient services with approximately 700 births per year.

Gisborne Hospital, a 110 bed acute care hospital which serves a wide geographical area, Tairāwhiti, extending up the East Cape of New Zealand, creating enormous scope and variety in the work available to an enthusiastic registrar. Providing healthcare to a population of 54,000, Health NZ Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti is well supported locally by comprehensive surgical services and has a full range of diagnostic facilities on site including a new MRI scanner and CT scanner. We have strong ties with our tertiary referral centre in Waikato.

About you

· Suitable for Resident Medical Officers PGY3 and above.

· Applicants must be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

· You will need to be a NZ or Australian citizen or resident, or have an appropriate visa to be eligible to live and work in NZ. For more information on visa requirements please visit the Immigration NZ website 

· Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth

· Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
