Are you passionate about food and making a difference in your community? Reefton Hospital is looking for a reliable and motivated Cook to join our team and help deliver nutritious, high-quality meals to patients and Meals on Wheels recipients.

About the Role

As our Cook, you'll play a vital role in preparing and delivering meals that support the health and wellbeing of our patients and community. You - ll ensure food is prepared to a high standard, meets individual dietary requirements, and is delivered safely and on time - all while contributing to a positive team environment.

Salary - Starting from $28.40 per hour, Based on the Etū Multi-Employer Collective Agreement. 

Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation

  • Prepare meals to a high standard in line with recipes and menu guidelines
  • Ensure Meals on Wheels recipients receive accurate, timely food orders

Quality & Safety

  • Adhere to all food safety standards and Food Control Plans
  • Apply efficient production methods to reduce waste and forecast demand

Team Culture

  • Respect cultural differences and maintain patient privacy
  • Promote a positive, collaborative team environment

Health & Safety

  • Follow hygiene, safety, and equipment protocols to ensure a safe workspace

Time Management

  • Complete daily tasks efficiently and to the required standards

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for improvement and support changes in service delivery

Te Tiriti o Waitangi

  • Champion equitable health outcomes for Māori
  • Support Māori-led initiatives and development of Māori staff 

About You

Essential

  • Experience applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in the workplace
  • Safe Food Handling qualification (NZQA 167)
  • Strong understanding of food safety, allergens, and dietary requirements
  • Knowledge of safe handling practices and physical fitness for the role
  • Experience in health sector cleaning
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Good time management and customer service focus

Desired

  • Cookery qualification or formal culinary training
