About the Role

  • As a Rural Hospital Medicine Specialist, you will work across both the Emergency Department and the Inpatient Ward, applying your broad generalist knowledge in a rural setting to serve the Taupō community.
  • This community in the South Waikato has a population of approximately 42,000. You will be an essential part of delivering quality, integrated care in this unique and rewarding environment.
  • If you have a background working in smaller, less-resourced rural hospitals, you'll appreciate the scope of practice and autonomy this role offers. You wont be without support as Taupō has recently increased the junior doctor cohort to compliment the SMO team alongside a competent nursing and medical student team.

  • Taupō Hospital is a vital healthcare hub, featuring a 24-hour emergency department and a range of inpatient and outpatient services, including a maternity unit and community mental health care.

About You

  • You are a highly adaptable and experienced Rural Hospital Medicine Specialist who thrives in a rural environment and is comfortable applying a broad generalist knowledge to diagnose and treat patients independently.
  • You are within 3 months of obtaining your Rural Hospital Medicine qualification and/or already hold this qualification.
  • You are eligible for Specialist Locum Tenens and/or Specialist Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
