About the Role

We plan, fund and deliver health services to the almost 600,000 people that live in the Canterbury region. Waipapa is our new facility that has a footprint of 10,450m2, making it the South Island - s largest tertiary hospital.
Other facilities within the Canterbury District Health Board include:
- Christchurch Women - s Hospital
- Hillmorton Hospital and the Princes Margaret Hospital - Mental Health Services
- Burwood Hospital - Older Persons Health and Rehabilitation Services, including the Spinal injuries Unit
- Ashburton Hospital - General Hospital, south of Christchurch
This is a 0.5FTE fixed term position, commencing on the 28th July 2025 - 1st February 2026.
About the Service
- We are the largest South Island Neurosurgery centre with 6 Consultant Neurosurgeons and have a full Neurosurgery and Spinal Surgery practice including Paediatric Neurosurgery, Neurovascular Interventional Radiology and Surgery, and Spinal Neuromodulation at Christchurch Public Hospital.
- Our team includes 4 full time Registrars which will expand to 5 with this appointment. Two of our Registrars are vocational trainees from the University of Virginia and Australasia. We have a strong educational focus for our Registrars and Housesurgeons.
About you
- You will have completed PGY2.
- Knowledge and commitment of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how the principles can be applied to health.
- A willingness to grow and further develop an equity lens and skillset, both to assist Māori and minority groups.
- You must be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You can check your eligibility by visiting the Council - s website at www.mcnz.org.nz
