Phlebotomist| Canterbury Health Laboratories at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Waitaha Canterbury, Christchurch

About the role

We are seeking a Phlebotomist to deliver an exceptional, patient-centred service across multiple collection sites. Whether you're experienced or just starting out, we provide full training and support to help you grow.

Your duties will include:

  • Collecting blood samples from inpatients and outpatients with professionalism and minimal discomfort
  • Ensuring correct sample handling, labelling, and delivery in accordance with clinical guidelines
  • Providing respectful, compassionate interactions with patients and whānau
  • Promoting a positive image of the Blood Test Centre through excellent customer service
  • Supporting team members and fostering a collegial, respectful work environment
  • Actively maintaining and developing knowledge in phlebotomy procedures and technology, including Delphic LIS and eOrders
  • Assisting with pre-analytical sample processing and other laboratory support duties as required

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A caring, respectful approach with a commitment to patient privacy and comfort
  • Initiative and adaptability - you - re comfortable using technology and learning new systems
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate sample handling
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit team
  • Willingness to support colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement

Preferred (but not essential):

  • Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand
  • Experience in phlebotomy or healthcare specimen services
  • Familiarity with Delphic LIS and laboratory workflows
  • Awareness of health and safety practices in clinical environments

Full training will be provided for the right candidate.
