At the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) | Te Tira Tiaki, our mission is to protect and enhance Aotearoa New Zealand’s security and wellbeing. We provide Signals Intelligence and Cyber Security and resilience to organisations of national significance to successfully navigate in an unpredictable world.
The role
GCSB needs a Technical Director Intelligence Mission to support our goal of providing deep insights on regional security for New Zealand and for the Pacific, forewarning on and responding to the array of security challenges facing the Pacific.
The Technical Director Mission leads an Intelligence Directorate-wide systemic approach to the prioritised delivery of intelligence in relation to their intelligence mission. Help create, define and implement the vision for the Intelligence Directorate.
Working across the organisation, you will ensure the optimisation of data analytics, information sharing, tradecraft, technology and partnerships is achieved, enabling valuable products and services are provided to our customers.
Who we’re looking for
To be successful you need:
· Significant operational intelligence experience, preferably in SIGINT, including managing risks and equities, and demonstrating a good knowledge of policies
· A good appreciation of the operational practices of other intelligence disciplines
· Current and comprehensive familiarity with international political, economic and security affairs, and New Zealand's role and interests in the world community
· A good understanding of customer organisations, their intelligence requirements, and the greatest value GCSB can provide
· An ability to lead and influence people to connect with our vision and mission
· Effective relationship management skills to engage across the organisation, and with counterparts in customer and partner agencies
You need high energy and motivation as well as a collaborative, inclusive and outcome focused approach. Utilising your clear and concise communication style will enable you to cut a clear path through complexity.

The appointing range for this role is likely to be between $142,093 - $151,566.

Before you apply
Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you’re eligible for employment.
You must:
- Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
OR
- Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
- Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
- Ordinarily, this means you’ll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
