Our Kaitaia Custody Team are seeking a motivated individuals to work within our dedicated staff as a Custody Officer.

 

The role of a Custody Officer within NZ Police is pivotal, and Custody Officers are responsible for providing appropriate standard of care for detainees whilst they are in our custody. Your main purpose will be to assist with prisoner Management within the Kaitaia Custody Unit based at the Kaitaia Police Station and/or at the District Court as required.

 

In this position you will need to be able to work shift work and weekend work when required at either the District Custody Unit or the Courts as directed.

 

Applying the principles of manaakitanga, kaitiakitanga and aroha you will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of detainees, monitoring their behaviour, providing proper care and ensuring professional standards whilst they are in our care are continuously met.

 

This role is not for the faint hearted and will require someone who is confident, open-minded with attention to detail and willing to follow stringent safety procedures.

  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Resilience, perseverance with the ability to de-escalate situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate and precise recording of information.
  • Duty of care, understanding the welfare, health, safety and level of care required for detainees.
  • Strong team player, reliable and trustworthy.
  • Decisive, cool, calm and demeanour - you can think on your feet, can use your initiative and works well under pressure.
  • Good computer skills - comfortable learning new systems, you will be required to input and update data accurately in Police systems therefore accurate typing skills are essential.

Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements

 

  • Hold a full New Zealand Driver Licence
  • Have the right to work and live in New Zealand. 
  • Be physically fit and able to compete a fitness assessment as part of your recruitment process
  • Be willing to complete a pre-employment Medical Assessment (including a drug test) 
  • Be able to work a variety of shifts (6:30am - 2:30pm / 2:00pm – 11:00pm / 10:00pm – 7:00am) including weekends and public holidays, on 6 days on, 4 days off rota.

Utu ā-tau | Salary

 

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $74,748.00 and $78,129.00 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
