Midwife Coordinator - Quality Team at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury, Christchurch

About the Service

You will be joining the Women's and Children's Safety and Quality team who actively promote and lead a 'whole of system' approach to quality, risk and patient safety programmes.

About the Role

We are looking for a Registered Midwife who has a patient focussed approach to their work, an analytical mind, and a natural curiosity to investigate incidents across our Maternity Services.  You will work closely and collaboratively with the senior midwifery and obstetrics teams, reviewing incidents and undertaking serious adverse event reviews along with ensuring policies and procedures are kept up to date.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining a high quality safe and secure work environment following relevant Health New Zealand and divisional policies, protocols and standards
  • Actively involved in patient safety and improvement projects
  • Plan, monitor and evaluate that quality is embedded in service level processes
  • Form collaborative working partnerships to facilitate a commitment to the quality culture within the Maternity Service and associated services
  • Serious and sentinel event investigations as outlined in the Incident Management Policy.
  • Assist the Maternity service in the identification of areas for further improvement as a result of incident or complaint reviews.
  • Paying attention to the quality of outcomes for priority populations (māmā and pēpi)

About You

Skills and Experience:

  • Registered Midwife with extensive knowledge of how maternity services and care is provided in New Zealand
  • Passion for quality and patient safety
  • High standard of written and verbal skills
  • Strong analytical skills and an eye for detail
  • Previous experience in quality improvement / project management
  • Knowledge of internal auditing requirements
  • Competent knowledge of Microsoft Office in particular Excel
  • The ability to foster cooperation, networking and facilitation along with acknowledging cultural diversity within our community
