Mō te tūranga | About the role

The Asset Specialist - Planning supports the Strategic Asset Manager and wider business by providing expert guidance in the development, implementation and management of regional infrastructure and asset management plans.

The position focus is:

  • providing asset management support and specialist advice to the Department's Eastern South Island Region and its Districts (North Canterbury, Mahaanui, Geraldine, Aoraki Mt Cook and Twizel)
  • developing and implementing regional infrastructure plans and programmes to meet required safety standards and Levels of Service
  • operationalising the national asset policies, strategies, and standards for use across DOC using asset management best practice
  • creating optimised asset maintenance programmes to achieve required Levels of Service
  • maintaining and improving the asset data within the Asset Management System
  • planning and scheduling asset inspections, preventive maintenance, and corrective actions to ensure operational reliability
  • collaborating across teams and providing specialist advice to build capability and promote sound asset management practices
  • ensuring DOC operates as an honourable treaty partner

If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:

  • Specialist knowledge of asset management planning, including developing and implementing processes that optimise asset lifecycle and ensure compliance.
  • Proven experience in creating and delivering optimised asset maintenance programmes.
  • Proficient with computerised maintenance management systems (e.g., SAP/EAM) to support asset lifecycle management.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to build trust, influence stakeholders, and incorporate diverse perspectives while staying on track.
  • Understanding of conservation principles and their connection to asset management.
  • Current full New Zealand driver licence.
  • Awareness of DOC's role and the wider public sector's impact on the Māori-Crown relationship.

The Asset Management Unit, within the Organisational Support Group, delivers efficient and streamlined asset management service nationally across the department.

The salary range for this position is $96,185.00 - $137,000.00 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
