At the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) | Te Pā Whakamarumaru, we are dedicated to our mission of keeping Aotearoa New Zealand and our people safe and secure. We collect, analyse and assess intelligence to protect New Zealand from threats such as foreign interference, espionage and terrorism. 

The team

You will be joining the Protective Security (PS) Directorate which delivers a full range of protective security functions to the New Zealand Intelligence Community (NZIC) and for New Zealand. You will work with a supportive and positive leadership team who lead these security functions.

The role

This is not your typical Information Technology Security Manager (ITSM) role, as you will work across the wider NZIC to achieve positive cyber and information security outcomes for the NZSIS. The role offers broad responsibility, autonomy, and a high degree of engagement with technology practitioners, corporate and operational teams as well as senior stakeholders.

The ITSM reports directly to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), and is responsible for managing and maintaining cyber and information security processes, standards, and risks within the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service. This means engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to help balance risks with expected mission outcomes.

Key areas of responsibility

• Provide system leadership on cyber security trends, issues, and responses
• Lead or support the development of security solutions where required
• Manage the accountabilities of the CISO office
• Lead or support incident response
• Lead and contribute to the development, review and implementation of security policy, education material, etc.
• Deputy Chief Information Security Officer (NZSIS) along with other related deputy functions

• Thought leadership and is able to engage and influence at all levels of an organisation
• Deep information security subject matter knowledge and the ability to translate between subject matter experts and customers
• Creative problem-solving to achieve sound security and mission outcomes

Appointment range for this position is $142,093 - $151,566.

Before you apply

Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.

You must:

• Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years

OR

Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years

• Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
  • Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
