Occupational Therapist - Community Allied Health at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Lakes, Bay of Plenty

The Community Allied Health Team at Whakatāne Hospital is looking for a Community Occupational Therapist who is passionate about community-based rehabilitation to join our supportive, friendly, and experienced team.

About the Role

This role provides the opportunity to work with a varied community-based patient caseload in diverse environments, including both town and rural settings. You will collaborate with the allied health team to deliver excellence in community-based care.

Our acute, outpatient, and community allied health teams work together to support each other, ensuring the best outcomes for our patients and fostering a fantastic working atmosphere.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our Community Occupational Therapy team sits within the Te Koru Rehabilitation Department home to a broad range of allied health professionals, including physiotherapy, speech-language therapy, dietetics, podiatry, and more. We foster a tight-knit, collaborative environment where shared knowledge, cultural understanding and professional growth are valued.

About you

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist with previous clinical experience who is passionate about community-based work. 

What you will bring: 

  • New Zealand registration and current Annual Practicing Certificate as an Occupational Therapist
  • Experience in rehabilitation or community settings
  • Excellent clinical reasoning, problem-solving, time management, and documentation skills
  • Confidence working both autonomously and as part of an interprofessional team
  • Awareness of rehabilitation theory, the ability to motivate patients to successfully self-manage, and up-to-date knowledge.
  • A commitment to equity and cultural safety in practice
