About the team

The Asset Planning group ensures the safe, reliable, and cost-effective performance of Transpower’s grid assets through long-term planning and analysis. We develop 15+ year workplans that guide investment and delivery, incorporating whole-of-lifecycle costing and risk-based decision-making. Our work supports the delivery of a resilient and future-ready electricity system aligned with Transpower’s strategic and regulatory commitments.

Within Asset Planning, the newly created Portfolio Performance team, is responsible for providing asset portfolio performance insights, assurance of asset management decision making and outcomes across Transpower and leads management of the maintenance portfolio across all asset portfolios. The team supports Portfolio Owners and Portfolio Leads in assessing portfolio delivery and outcomes across the asset life cycle. The team also provides Grid Development performance reporting.

The opportunity – help shape a new people leader role!

Lead a team of five specialists, and the asset portfolio performance function, to assure the performance of our asset portfolios across the asset management lifecycle. You will be responsible for driving good asset management decisions through offering asset management advice, establishing, and developing robust assurance processes, and implementing asset management guidelines that enable efficient decision-making across the business.

You will also be the Maintenance Portfolio Owner, with responsibility for developing annual maintenance budgets, maintenance regulatory submissions, and in collaboration with Asset Portfolio Owners advising on portfolio management relating to risk and funding availability.

Building positive relationships including with our Grid Delivery Project Management Office (PMO), Operational Engineering, and Planning, Scheduling and Optimisation functions, and across Grid Development you’ll ensure that asset management decisions align with best practice, organisational risk appetite, and service measures. You’ll drive Grid Development performance reporting and insights as well as providing assurance over in-flight projects and delegated decision-making.

As this role works across Transpower, and with senior leaders, our Waikoukou Wellington head office is the preferred location, however we may consider candidates in Christchurch with exceptional experience.

To be considered your CV and cover letter will clearly demonstrate:

  • Relevant engineering, technical, and/or asset management qualifications
  • Extensive Asset Management knowledge and experience – leading and working within a longer-term planning/proactive asset management context.
  • Leadership of structured assurance process development and implementation
  • Proven ability to lead change and champion new ways of working, and strategic and innovative projects to build business capability.
  • Ability to constructively and collaboratively influence behaviour and outcomes, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience working and delivering regulatory documentation, preferably in electricity or utilities.
