Clinical Nurse Specialist - Infection Prevention and Control at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Te Matau a Māui Hawke's Bay, Hawkes Bay

About the Role

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), youll play a pivotal role in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of patients, whānau, and kaimahi across Hawkes Bay. This senior clinical role leads bestpractice infection prevention approaches, provides specialist nursing advice, and supports services across the care continuum to minimise harm and prevent the spread of infection.

Youll work collaboratively with teams across primary, secondary, aged residential care, public health and community settings, providing expert guidance, outbreak management support, education, and systemwide leadership. This is a role for someone who thrives on innovation, quality improvement, and influencing safe practice at both the bedside and organisational level. About the Team/Service/ Location

The IPC team sits within the Patient Safety and Quality Service at Hawkes Bay Hospital and plays an essential role in maintaining safe, highquality care across the region. Youll collaborate closely with infectious diseases specialists, clinical leaders, public health, health protection officers, and a wide range of internal and external partners.

The team is valuesdriven, supportive, and focused on continuous improvement. Together, youll help uphold national Infection Prevention and Control Standards (NZS 8134:2021) and strengthen organisational capability in patient safety and clinical quality. About you

Youll be an experienced and confident nursing professional with advanced clinical skills, strong leadership capability, and a passion for improving patient safety. You will bring:

  • Current NZ Nursing Council registration and APC as a Registered Nurse.
  • Postgraduate qualifications (preferably a PG Diploma) or equivalent experience, with willingness to complete additional study if required.
  • Significant recent clinical experience, ideally in infection prevention and control or relevant specialty practice.
  • Strong communication, consultation, and relationshipbuilding skills across all levels and services.
  • Proven ability to provide clinical leadership, expert advice and highquality education.
  • Competency with IT systems, data interpretation, and monitoring quality standards.
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity, and culturally safe practice.

Desirable:

  • Experience in teaching, service improvement, or involvement in regional or national IPC networks.
