We collect, analyse and assess intelligence to protect New Zealand from threats such as foreign interference, espionage and terrorism.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced security/intelligence professional to lead our Insider Threat Unit to ensure it is able to effectively deliver the NZIC protective security and intelligence objectives.
The role
The Insider Threat Unit Manager is responsible for leading the delivery of a cohesive Insider Threats programme by:
- Establishing and implementing strategies to identify and manage insider threat risks across the NZIC and wider New Zealand Government
- Prioritising, conducting and managing insider threat investigations
- Delivery of key personnel security functions including clearance management and proactive monitoring services
- Building strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Influencing security culture by supporting and contributing to policy and education campaigns
This opportunity is busy, interesting and challenging and will see you working with a wide range of staff, managers and stakeholders across Government. The matters you deal with will often be complex and multidimensional.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Proven leadership ability including experience in leading and maintaining highly performing teams and delivering results through others
- Significant (5+ years) experience managing others in complex and/or sensitive intelligence and security investigations
- Strong (3+ years) experience in managing complex security and/or personnel risks.
- A working knowledge of the Protective Security Requirements and experience in the application of security policies
Before you apply
Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.
You must:
- Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
OR
Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
- Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
- Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
