Mō te tūnga | About the role

 

With a primary hub in Wellington, and a presence throughout the country, NZ Police ICT delivers modern digital solutions both directly and through specialist vendor partnerships. This is an exciting Technical Product Owner (TPO) role that has the ability to shape our future business. You will be part of a forward-thinking group that values innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement with a focus on delivering great outcomes to our frontline.

As the Technical Product Owner – ERM, you will have extensive experience delivering ERM projects, specifically replacement of SAP HCM and Payroll systems, including one full project lifecycle as a manager.  You will also be leading a team of engineers with varying levels of experience, providing technical direction, coaching, and support to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and support a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand user needs, pain points, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor performance, user feedback, and emerging technologies to drive iterative enhancements.
  • Lead the development or supply of a fit for purpose product which is aligned with the product vision.
  • Lead day-to-day decision making related to the product development, consulting with the stakeholders and the product team.
  • Provide sound product management discipline and support the team to make impactful product decisions that align with strategic outcomes.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the multi-disciplined product team

  • Experience across ECC6 to SuccessFactors transformation projects
  • SAP SuccessFactors experience
  • Experience across one full project lifecycle from business case to delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to translate technical requirements into user-focused solutions.
  • Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery environments.
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on outcomes, user experience, and operational efficiency.

  • Current CPK at the rank of the vacancy you are applying for (Constabulary only).
  • For both Constabulary & Police Employees:  
    • Agree to enrol in a leadership programme at the advertised level, at a future date or
    • Have qualified under CEP or a previous Career Progression Framework at the level you are applying for.
  • This role is based in the new IT Hub in Porirua, with travel to headquarters in Wellington and college in Porirua expected.
  • Experience across public sector or emergency services preferred but not essential.
  • Applicants must be a NZ Citizen, Resident or have valid work rights for NZ to apply.
