This is an opportunity for you to play a key part in delivering high quality Information management services and implementing best practice to Stats NZ staff to ensure New Zealanders have access to quality data and statistics.

Salary: $76,494- $89,993 + Superannuation

The role | Te tūnga  

In your role as Advisor – Data and Information Management, you will report to the Unit Manager – Data and Information Management and work closely with the wider Data and Information Management Unit to enhance data and information management practices across Stats NZ.

As an Advisor, you will provide advice to internal and external customers and stakeholders on best‑practice approaches and support the effective management of data, records, and other information resources. Your responsibilities will include responding to and triaging queries received through the Information Management Inbox, providing first‑level MS365 records management support to Stats NZ kaimahi, and assisting Senior Advisors and Practice Leads with a range of information management projects and tasks.

Key to the success of this role is the ability to:   

  • Engage with staff to understand problems and apply your knowledge in real work settings  
  • Learn on the job and stay current with information management best practice and developments with information management technologies 
  • Develop sensible solutions based on your application of general principles, policies and guidance  
  • Collaborate with other specialists and work at pace  
  • Strong experience with Microsoft 365 apps and tools  
  • Apply your knowledge of Māori tikanga to your work  

 Requirements in your role may change with the needs of the organisation.  

What you bring | Nōu te rourou    

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline such as information management, data or records management  
  • Experience working as an Information Management Advisor or equivalent with a strong understanding of the practical components of information management.  
  • Experience training and upskilling colleagues on information management practices 
  • Strong experience of using MS365 environment for records management including Teams and SharePoint. 
  • Excellent relationship building skills with an ability to translate customer needs or requirements into practical initiatives to improve services or develop new services.  
  • Good communication skills with the ability to share technical information management knowledge with different audiences using plain/accessible language. 
  • Any information about your knowledge and experience, or desire to learn and build knowledge and experience of Te Tiriti, Tikanga, Te Reo and Te Ao Māori, and engagement with Māori. 
  • Supports an inclusive workplace and engages with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives  
  • Actively demonstrates The Way We Work principles which speak to what we care about, how we do things and what is needed for all our people to be successful in our organisation.
