Equipment Maintenance Officer – Police National Dive Squad (PNDS)

Mō te tūnga | About the role

 

Encompassing all of New Zealand, the Wellington based Police National Dive Squad (PNDS) are responsible for all underwater search operations such as the search for evidence and/or missing people, which may last from several hours to several days.

The PNDS also provide safety swimmers for on-water operations and training, including protests and events where it is likely that people may enter the water either intentionally or accidentally and can usually be in most major centres of New Zealand within a few hours.

 

PNDS capability is supported and enhanced by their access to additional tools including remote underwater vehicles and advanced sonar search systems through the Defence Force (Royal New Zealand Navy), the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA), and a deeper diving capability through the Navy Operational Dive Team or commercial operations. Australian Police dive teams are also available to assist where required.

 

The PNDS is required to coordinate all underwater search operations, search for, and recover missing people underwater, search for, and recover evidence underwater, carry out deceased diver forensic investigations, take underwater photography and video, provide safety divers/swimmers for Police operations, and conduct security searches for VIP Operations.

 

 

We have an exciting opportunity within this team! This role will ideally suit a person with a wide knowledge and experience of diving equipment. A good understanding of machinery and technical systems operate safely, efficiently and with minimal downtime by performing inspections, repairs and preventative maintenance. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a practical working knowledge of current Health and Safety good practice and record keeping.

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Demonstrate experience in working as part of a high performing team.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise in a wide range of commercial dive Equipment
  • Demonstrate an ability to effectively manage systems, schedules and record keeping.
  • Demonstrate experience in building and maintaining relationships within a customer focused service delivery environment.

Utu ā-tau | Salary 

 

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $63,526 and $66,312 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
