Physiotherapist - General Medicine at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury, Christchurch

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Physiotherapist to join our General Medicine team at Christchurch Hospital, working within a fast-paced, supportive multidisciplinary environment.

In this role, you'll provide high-quality acute physiotherapy assessment and treatment to a diverse range of patients with complex and often multi'system medical conditions. You will work closely with medical, nursing, and allied health colleagues to support safe, effective, and patient-centred care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver timely and comprehensive physiotherapy assessments in an acute medical setting
  • Plan and implement evidence-based interventions to optimise patient mobility, function, and discharge readiness
  • Contribute to MDT discussions, discharge planning, and coordinated care pathways
  • Educate patients and whānau to support self-management and recovery
  • Participate in service development, audits, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Supervise and mentor rotational physiotherapists and final year physiotherapy students
  • Participate in peer review and supervision structure

You will be required to contribute to the weekend and on-call rosters.

About the Team

This role is part of the Christchurch Hospital Physiotherapy team, with over 60 team members across a large range of specialities and more specifically sits within the medical specialties and neurosciences cluster, a team of approximately 20 physiotherapists. This supportive and patient centred focused cluster strives to bring the best out of each other to deliver the best patient care.

About you

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate the following:

  • 3+ years' clinical experience, including experience in general medicine
  • Acute hospital inpatient experience
  • New Zealand Registered physiotherapist with current APC
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including how to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in your role
