Do you enjoy working on large and complex business development projects?
We are looking for two people to join our Development Unit and be part of the team that will help deliver some of Stats NZ’s most important development initiatives, including the redesign of the Census of Population and Housing and a multi-year project to improve the ways we measure the modern economy.

Starting salary:
- Design Analyst: $83,195 – $97,876 + superannuation
- Senior Design Analyst: $96,307 - $113,303 + superannuation

The roles | Te tūnga
These positions sit within the Development Unit in the Business Enablement and Development branch of the Insights and Statistics Group. The Development Unit provides capability, expertise, and support across the full development lifecycle to help deliver successful business change across Insights & Statistics.
As a Design Analyst or Senior Design Analyst, you’ll work within crossfunctional teams alongside subjectmatter experts and technical specialists. The work will vary-from adopting new technology through to redesigning processes, systems, and statistical methods to improve how data is collected, produced, and delivered to New Zealanders.
These are permanent, office-based roles, and we welcome applications from people in Christchurch or Wellington.
The role would suit someone who can bring:
- Hands-on experience working on development projects, ideally those involving data and analytics.
- Solid understanding of the development lifecycle, from exploring user needs and translating them into business requirements, through to process design, system build, and user acceptance testing.
- A curious mindset and the ability to think critically and solve challenges.
- Ability to confidently navigate ambiguity in large, complex development settings.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- For the Senior Design Analyst role: proven technical leadership experience, including coaching and mentoring junior analysts to support their development and growth.
