Orthopaedic Surgeon - Whakatane Hospital at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Lakes, Bay of Plenty

About the Role

The Bay of Plenty Orthopaedic Department is seeking a qualified and motivated Orthopaedic Surgeon to join our dynamic and supportive team. This full-time position involves general orthopaedic on-call duties, as well as opportunities to contribute to the teaching and supervision of orthopaedic registrars and medical students.

The successful candidate will be a team-oriented surgeon committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care to the Bay of Plenty community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive orthopaedic services, including participation in emergency oncall roster.
  • Perform elective and acute orthopaedic surgeries, with a particular focus on hip and knee arthroplasty and complex trauma.
  • Participate in departmental teaching and mentoring of orthopaedic registrars and medical students.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Engage in research and continuous professional development.

About you

To be successful in this role you will need the following qualifications and experience

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Orthopaedics, or equivalent specialist qualification eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
  • Fellowship training in hip and knee arthroplasty, including revision surgery.
  • Additional skills or experience in pelvic, acetabular and complex trauma surgery along with hip preservation are highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong commitment to teaching and ongoing education.
