Mō te tūnga | About the role  

As an Information Security Advisor, you’ll provide expert, pragmatic security advice across projects, programmes, and operational teams. You’ll help ensure information security risks are understood and managed, support certification and accreditation (C&A) processes, and contribute to continuous improvement of security practices across the Ministry. 

Reporting to the IT Security Manager and working closely with the CISO, you’ll influence how information security is embedded within a modern, cloud-first, user-centric technology environment. 

This is a role where your work truly makes a difference — protecting the systems and information that support Aotearoa New Zealand’s most vulnerable tamariki and rangatahi. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Providing clear, practical information security advice 
  • Supporting the design and delivery of information security solutions and promoting innovative security practices 
  • Facilitating Certification & Accreditation processes (risk assessments, controls reviews, accreditation memos). 
  • Working closely with the CISO office and the ITSM team to align and manage information security risks and controls 
  • Building strong relationships with internal teams and external partners 

 

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring  

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience 
  • A foundational understanding of information security and its principles 
  • The ability to explain technical concepts in everyday language with strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Exceptional relationship-building capability across diverse teams 
  • Well-developed analytical thinking and problem-solving skills 
  • Integrity, maturity and sound judgement 
  • A willingness to learn, innovate and work at pace 
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples’ culture

Oranga Tamariki offer a step-based remuneration package, that offers progression annually for experience through tenure. Annual remuneration for this position starts between $77,886 and $86,082 dependant on experience.
