About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Provide psychological assessments and evidencebased interventions for patients with confirmed or suspected cancer who are undergoing active treatment.
  • Support individuals with moderate to high mental health needs as they navigate the challenges of diagnosis and treatment.
  • Work closely with Cancer Support social workers, clinical nurse specialists, allied health clinicians, oncology and radiation teams, palliative care, and pain services.
  • Participate in service innovation and contribute to research and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Offer consultation and training to other clinical staff as your confidence and expertise grow.

About the Team / Service / Location

  • Our Psychology and Social Work team is a warm, tightknit group of seven clinicians (psychologists and social workers) providing evidencebased support for people aged 16+ receiving cancer treatment across all tumour streams and haematology.
  • We focus on helping patients cope with diagnosis and treatment while ensuring equitable access by addressing psychological and social barriers.
  • We work across North Shore Hospital, Waitākere Hospital, Hibiscus Coast, Helensville and Warkworth.
  • We are part of the wider Waitematā Cancer Service and collaborate closely with regional Cancer Support teams in Counties Manukau, Te Toka Tumai, and Te Tai Tokerau.

About You

Were looking for someone who:

  • Is a registered (or eligible) Clinical or Health Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologists Board.
  • Is a new graduate or earlycareer psychologistthis role is intentionally structured to support your development, and we are approved to appoint up to Step 5.
  • Has an interest in psychooncology or health psychology, even if youre still building experience.
  • Enjoys working collaboratively and communicating within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Is committed to patientcentred, evidencebased practice.
  • Brings curiosity, openness, and a desire to grow professionally.
