About the Role
Be part of a service shaping the future wellbeing of tamariki aged 0 to 12 years. As an Intake Worker within Tauranga Child Mental Health Services based at Te Waka Aorangi Child Wellness Centre, this role sits at the front end of care. Every referral matters. First contact sets the tone.
Manage routine referrals and respond to urgent presentations requiring prioritisation. Complete telephone and face-to-face assessments with children and their whānau. Provide therapeutic coaching during periods of family distress. Work alongside a skilled multidisciplinary team to make informed, child-centred decisions grounded in evidence-based practice.

About the Team/Service/Location
Tauranga Child Mental Health Services forms part of MICAMHS and works closely with Paediatrics, Child Development Services, CHIRP, and community partners. The team includes Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Psychotherapists, and Psychiatrists. The culture is nurturing, academically active, and focused on practical learning. This is a service strengthening its integrated model to better meet community need, with a clear commitment to high-quality therapeutic pathways and ongoing supervision.

About You
You will be a clam, grounded Registered Mental Health Professional who understands child development and family systems. You connect easily with tamariki and whānau during times of stress. You bring strong clinical judgement, clear communication, and the ability to hold complexity while remaining solution focused. Collaboration matters to you, and equitable care sits at the centre of your practice.
What you will bring:
- Registration with the relevant professional board and current Annual Practicing Certificate
- Mental Heal included within your Scope of Practice
- Experience working with tamariki aged 0 to 12 years and their whānau
- Knowledge of family systems and acute child mental health presentations
- Strong assessment, risk management, and prioritisation skills
