Senior Business Capability Analyst at Transpower New Zealand Limited, Wellington

About the team

Our Operations Process and Technology Improvement (OPTI) group supports the Operations division (in the System Operator) to deliver solutions required to manage the real time power system and prepare for an increasingly electrified future.  Read more about this here: https://www.transpower.co.nz/system-operator/our-system-operator-role 

The group plays an essential role in proactively identifying the critical capabilities, skills, resources, and support needed to meet current and future operational needs. We are working to optimise planning and investment decisions across key tools and processes utilised by our control rooms and other areas of Transpower.

The Capability and Capital Planning team creates and maintains a relevant capability model and maturity assessment for Operations agreed by the Operations Senior Leadership Team.  We maintain the capability roadmap, a forward looking workplan across Operations, working closely with our ICT division, to have a joined-up investment plan to deliver long-term business outcomes for the division. We follow through by providing business analysis to scope and deliver initiatives on the roadmap.

The opportunity

You will shape and maintain the Operations capability model, developing a clear roadmap to lift capability and support future business needs.  You’ll also provide senior level business analysis from concept through to implementation, informing investment decisions through robust requirements analysis, options assessment, process design and benefits assessment. 

Working across delivery portfolios, you’ll connect business teams and project delivery to ensure both short- and long-term initiatives deliver real business value.

Business acuity, curiosity, and proven ability work with a wide range of busy senior and technical collaborators.  You balance an empathic approach with driving business outcomes.

To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience across the full BA lifecycle (requirements elicitation, process analysis and design, benefits planning and management). You communicate with user-friendly visual documentation e.g. icons, diagrams, imagery etc
  • Demonstrated delivery of initiatives that lift business capability across people, process, technology, and information, ideally in a large complex business
  • Well-developed relationship management, and communication skills including active listening, thoughtful questioning, and facilitation delivering tangible outcomes
  • Skill in planning and scheduling complex portfolios across multiple stakeholders
  • Experience coaching and mentoring business analysts and supporting capability uplift

Your “X factor” will be the ability to build relationships and put yourself into the audiences’ shoes so you can present relevant, concise information that enables leaders to make informed decisions.
