About the Role
As a Health Care Assistant in our busy Emergency Department, youll play an essential role in supporting clinical staff and ensuring patients and whānau receive safe, respectful and highquality care. Youll assist Registered Nurses with delegated patient care tasks, help maintain a clean and comfortable environment, support clinical workflows, and carry out technical and clerical duties that keep the ED running smoothly.
Every shift is different - youll be involved in patient personal cares, equipment cleaning, restocking, supporting patient flow, and helping the team deliver responsive, patientcentred care. Your ability to stay calm, organised and compassionate in a fastpaced environment will make you a valued part of the ED team.

About the Team/Service/ Location
Youll be based at Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital, working within the Emergency Department - a dynamic, highacuity environment where teamwork is critical.
The ED team includes nurses, doctors, allied health professionals and administrative staff who work closely together to provide urgent, safe and timely care to our community. Youll also collaborate with colleagues across Te Whatu Ora, Hauora Māori teams, Pacific Health, and wider clinical and support services.
This is a supportive, valuesdriven team that embraces Te Mauri o Rongo and strives to create a safe, inclusive environment for staff, patients and whānau.

About you
Youll be someone who brings empathy, initiative, and a genuine desire to support patients and staff. To succeed in the role, you will have:
- A NZ Certificate in Health & Wellbeing (Level 3) Health Assistance,
- OR be working towards it,
- OR be committed to starting within six months
- Experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to follow direction, adapt to change and contribute to strong teamwork
- Good customer service skills and confidence using computers and phones
- Respect for confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Physical capability to meet the demands of the role (kneeling, lifting, squatting, stair climbing etc.)
- Understanding of Māori tikanga and commitment to culturally safe care
An enthusiastic, fit and proactive attitude - plus basic problemsolving skills - will help you thrive in this environment. Knowledge of ECA (patient management system) is an advantage.
