About the role

The Specialist Mental Health Services, Waitaha Canterbury has a very exciting opportunity for an experienced Allied Health Professional to advance their career into a senior leadership role as an Allied Health Consultant.

Child, Adolescent and Family (CAF) Service provides specialist community and inpatient mental health care for children and young people (0'17 years) and their whānau across Canterbury.  The clinical teams within CAF provide comprehensive mental health assessment and tailored therapeutic interventions across a variety of settings.

The role of the Allied Health Consultant is pivotal in the clinical and strategic leadership of these services, which will see you at the forefront of our service delivery, helping shape the way we operate through leading and developing allied health provision that will sustain us well into the future.

About You

As an Allied Health Consultant, you will work in partnership with the Service Manager, Nurse Consultant and the Clinical Director of the service to facilitate the ongoing development of mental health best practice, promote inter-disciplinary models of care and lead service improvements that deliver improved outcomes for young people and their whānau.

Reporting to the Director of Allied Health you will be part of the Allied Health Directorate, also working closely with the Allied Health Clinical Leaders, Allied Health Educator and other Allied Health Consultants.  The role is firmly focused on leadership within the service, however you will also have strong clinical experience within your area of practice.  You will be based at Hillmorton Hospital but working with our regional Mental Health Services and across the Canterbury Health system.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing day to day strategic leadership, in order to deliver a sustainable, high quality service that contributes to the achievement of organisational goals.
  • Providing clinical leadership for the Allied Health workforce with a focus on workforce development, safe and high-quality care, outcomes focussed practice and integration that support strategic development and organisational priorities.
  • Supporting the integration of research evidence into practice and the implementation of contemporary models of care;
  • Develop, maintain and evaluate organisational systems to facilitate delivery of safe, quality care;
  • Providing clinical expertise at an advanced practice level within a specialist clinical area, SMHS.

To be successful in this role you will have;

  • Experience in a leadership role is an essential but support for professional development will also be given;
  • Ability to articulate a compelling vision for all Allied Health disciplines;
  • Advanced level of knowledge and clinical experience;
  • Experience in leading improvement in service delivery and or practice development;
  • Strong professional networks and relationship skills;
  • Allied Health qualification and current Annual Practicing Certificate is essential.
