About the Role

Are you an experienced Registered Nurse or Midwife with a strong clinical background and a passion for patient safety and improvement?

We are seeking a motivated clinician to join our Patient Safety and Quality team at Te Whatu Ora Te Matau a Māui Hawkes Bay.

In this role, you will:

  • Embed a culture where patient safety and quality are fundamental pillars of success.
  • Work in partnership with clinical teams to enhance patient journeys and outcomes through data analysis, systems review, and improvement methodology.
  • Support Clinical Groups to grow and embed their Clinical Governance Frameworks.
  • Provide expert advice, coordination and leadership across patient safety and quality workstreams, including support for adverse event reviews, quality improvement initiatives and compliance with Ngā Paerewa Health & Disability Services Standards (NZS 8134:2021).
  • Build capability and capacity in improvement science and quality systems across the organisation.

This is a dynamic, influential role that works closely with senior nursing and operational leaders to drive meaningful change across services.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our Patient Safety and Quality Service provides systemwide support to drive continuous improvement, strengthen clinical governance, and promote safe, equitable care. You will work closely with Group Leadership Teams, clinical groups, patient safety experts and wider Hospital & Specialist Services teams. Collaboration, transparent communication and a strong improvement culture sit at the heart of our work.

About you

You are an experienced and confident clinician with the credibility to influence others and the commitment to improve outcomes for patients and whānau. You will have:

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council or Midwifery Council of New Zealand, with a valid APC.
  • A postgraduate qualification in nursing, midwifery or a related field (or working toward this).
  • Recent, extensive clinical experience with involvement in patient safety or quality improvement activities.
  • A PDRP portfolio at proficient level (minimum), with commitment to progress to expert level within 12 months.
  • Strong analytical, problemsolving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Highly effective communication and relationshipbuilding skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving equity for Māori.

Desired:

  • Formal qualification in improvement methodology.
  • Experience in leadership, teaching or facilitation.
  • Experience conducting or supporting complex reviews and quality improvement projects.
