Clinical Nurse Specialist Haematology

Lakes District Rotorua/Taupō

Permanent 0.7 FTE

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Haematology is responsible for providing specialist nursing care and leadership both in direct care delivery and provision of nursing expertise and guidance to nursing and medical colleagues within the Haematology service. 

As a member of the designated nursing leadership team the CNS has a key resource role in coordinating/managing/supporting and enhancing timely, effective care to all patients presenting to the Haematology service.

About the Role

The Haematology CNS actively facilitates and role models team working and flexibility between multidisciplinary and supporting staff members. Works proactively with medical and nurse specialists to ensure effective services to patients using the department to provide advice on complex clinical issues of Haematology oncology patients.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The haematology nurse is based in Rotorua and supports the visiting clinicians from Waikato in clinics along with the haematology registrar based at lakes. The team is supported by the wider oncology team based in the same area as part of the wider medical services team.

The Haematology Nurse

  • Undertake planned comprehensive and accurate nursing assessment of clients in a variety of settings to achieve identified outcomes.
  • Responds to finding on patient assessment and refers to relevant medical specialties for further diagnostics, or evaluation as necessary.
  • Uses advanced knowledge research and skills to provide direct nursing care/interventions for patients in the specialty to achieve specific outcomes. 
  • Fosters the provision of positive patient/client outcomes and person centred care.
