Allied Health Critical Care Educator - Dietitian, Te Waipounamu at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury, South Island Region

About the Role

The Critical Care Expansion Programme provided funding to support and increase Allied Health (AH) workforce capacity and capability within critical care settings, by funding Educators for Allied Health professions, within Te Waipounamu.  

The AH Critical Care Educator roles work in partnership with other critical care educators to provide wrap around support for the AH workforce across the region.

They support the critical care AH workforce with the clinical demand and complexity of their work, particularly new graduates, practitioners returning to practice, newly employed internationally qualified practitioners, experienced practitioners moving into critical care, or other AH staff with an identified need.

We are currently recruiting an Allied Health Critical Care Educator - Dietitian role, which can be based across Te Waipounamu, to provide 'on the job' training, support and coaching in critical care settings. The successful applicant will need to be based in a Critical Care unit, within Te Waipounamu.

Purpose of the Role:

The primary responsibilities of the Critical Care Educator, is to plan, develop, deliver, and facilitate staff training and education both locally and regionally against set standards of care/guidelines for the provision of critical care services. They will work in partnership with other critical care educators to provide support for the AH workforce across Te Waipounamu.

The focus is point of care specialist learning by working alongside staff who are new-to-practice role or are experienced staff who are becoming proficient.

The Critical Care Educator will promote a learning environment that supports the development of knowledge & skills of allied health professionals working in critical care services and across the continuum. They will support Allied Health Professionals (AHPs)s to integrate theoretical knowledge into clinical practice and improve quality of patient care.

The role will;

  • report to the Line manager of their Profession operationally and professionally to the Director of Allied Health of the host district
  • work regionally to support profession specific Allied health staff
  • Preferably have paediatric critical care experience

About You

Essential:

  • NZ registered with a current APC
  • Participation in Profession Specific Continuing Competency programme
  • Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action
  • Proven clinical leadership abilities
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in point of care educational interventions in critical care

Minimum Qualification and Experience:

  • A relevant post graduate certificate or Diploma or Degree
  • 5 years or more of relevant clinical experience in critical care medicine or surgery
