Mō te tūranga | About the role

Are you passionate about making a tangible difference in the way Aotearoa manages and protects its land? Join DOC and contribute to shaping conservation outcomes through statutory land management.

Our SLM (Statutory Land Management) Team manage the land assets that the Department of Conservation is responsible for. Working closely with a high performing, nationally distributed team, the position will be focused on;

  • providing expertise in land tenure matters, associated with the relevant legislation administered by the Department
  • processing statutory consents, along with the acquisition, protection, and disposal of land
  • build and maintain relationships with a wide range of people and industries, providing timely and professional advice to operations, internal and external customers

As a SLM Advisor, you will thrive in an environment where no two days are the same. If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

  • experience in interpreting, analysing and applying legislation to applications. Knowledge in dealing with land titles and cadastral survey systems would be beneficial.
  • A good understanding of the relevant legislative processes (eg Reserves Act, Conservation Act, Public Works Act, Land Transfer Act) would be viewed favourably
  • are a confident and able communicator (written and verbal) who builds trust with others
  • are solution focussed and able to manage having a high number of tasks on the go and apply organising tools to make the best use of your time

The Land Regulatory Delivery Team sits within the Treaty Negotiations and Land Directorate and is one area responsible for managing and overseeing the stewardship of DOC's Crown land asset. Working with others, we ensure land use and regulatory compliance under several pieces of core legislation that DOC is responsible for.

The salary range for this position is $68,878.00 - $87,265.00 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.


Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
