The Partnerships and Commissions - Te Aukaha branch of the Department of Internal Affairs supports some of Aotearoa's most significant democratic and community functions. Our portfolio spans national institutions, commissions, Ministerial Services, and community-based operations that support the Prime Minister, Ministers, and the Executive.
VIP Transport, part of Ministerial Services, provides high quality chauffeuring and safe, professional transport to Ministers of the Crown, Judges, distinguished guests, international dignitaries, and other authorised passengers.
The role | Te tūnga
The Safety and Training Specialist plays a key role in shaping the training and safety standards that support one of New Zealand's most unique transport operations. This role is responsible for developing, delivering and continuously improving driver training and wider staff training programmes, ensuring capability is lifted and performance is safe, consistent and reliable across VIP Transport.
Working closely with managers, staff and external partners, you will ensure training systems, manuals and assessment processes are fit for purpose and compliant with New Zealand Health and Safety legislation. You will lead fatigue risk management and safety management processes, provide clear and timely reporting, and contribute to the strategic direction of VIP Transport by championing continuous improvement in training and safety practices.
There will be travel throughout the motu as part of this role.
What you bring | Nōu te rourou
- Experience designing, delivering and assessing training programmes, with driver training experience highly valued
- Strong understanding of New Zealand Health & Safety legislation and best'practice safety approaches
- Experience working with Safety Management Systems and/or fatigue risk management
- Ability to analyse training and safety performance and drive practical improvements
- Strong communication and relationship'building skills, with the confidence to influence across a range of stakeholders

The appointing range for this role $81,441 - $101,349 depending on your level of experience.
