About the roles - Kōrero mō te tūranga
Being a member of the Tribunal is rewarding and challenging. You will be committed to improving the health of New Zealanders by protecting the consumers of health services, through hearing charges arising from the conduct of health practitioners. The functions and powers of the Tribunal are set out in sections 85, 91, 100, and 101 of the Act. More information about the Tribunal is available in the attached terms and conditions of appointment and on the Tribunals website.
Members are appointed to the Tribunal by the Director-General of Health for terms of up to five years and may be reappointed.
Member roles are not full-time positions. Hearing length differs depending on the case, but can range from one day up to three weeks, with the majority of hearings lasting one or two days. Once allocated, the fixture length will not exceed the timeframe advised.
In most cases, travel to a hearing venue will be required for face-to-face hearings, although some hearings will occur via audio-visual link. Remuneration rates are attached.
