Registered Nurse Second Stage Recovery & Surgical Admissions at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley, Wellington Hospital

Location: Wellington Hospital and Hutt Hospital 

Contract Part Time (0.6 FTE) Fixed Term, Rostered and Rotating ( End date 30.9.2026)

About the Role

Nurses working in the 10 bed Second Stage Recovery area will care for post-operative adult patients having minor to moderate surgery usually up to 1 day post-procedure.  Surgeries involved are general surgery, ophthalmology, urology, renal, orthopaedic, ENT, gynaecology and vascular.  When working in Surgical Admissions, nurses will prepare patients pre-surgery, and will also work in theatre holding bay areas to help manage the flow of patients to operating theatres.  Additionally nurses will be required to prepare notes and contact patients prior to their surgery.

About the Team/Service Location

Surgical Admissions and Second Stage Recovery consists of a small group of nurses working in a fast-paced area.  The team is highly-motivated to provide excellent care to patient's that are staying for a short period of time, and equally to those patients that are staying overnight or possibly longer. Staff get to know one another well and have become a tight-knit group of nurses, HCAs and ENs.

About you

  • Post-operative surgical experience preferred.
  • Previous Surgical Admissions and day-stay experience a bonus.
  • Current APC.
  • Able to work from Saturday PM through to Sunday night only.
