CNO DevOps Lead at Government Communications Security Bureau, Wellington

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Join our diverse and talented people and work at the heart of national security, providing essential intelligence to the NZ government to protect New Zealand and its people.

At the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) | Te Tira Tiaki, our mission is to protect and enhance Aotearoa New Zealand’s security and wellbeing. We provide Signals Intelligence and Cyber Security and resilience to organisations of national significance to successfully navigate in an unpredictable world.

We are seeking an experienced DevOps practitioner, ready to step beyond the conventional, to lead and mentor our CNO DevOps team – someone who thrives in technically demanding environments and wants their work to matter.  This isn’t a standard CI/CD pipeline role.  You will be the technical lead for a DevOps team that underpins a well-established specialist Research & Development team, developing and supporting capabilities for Government Communications Security Bureau’s (GCSB) Computer Network Operations (CNO), an important enabler to enhance GCSB's Intelligence mission.

The CNO DevOps team works across multiple environments and infrastructures, shaping the platforms, tooling and workflows that the CNO R&D team rely on to enable their work.  This means navigating a landscape of technical challenges across varied systems and the kind of constraints that demand creative, rigorous engineering.  Both the CNO R&D and DevOps team are well established, and have a strong working relationship.  If you have been looking for a role where deep technical leadership skills means genuine mission impact, this is it.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Extensive DevOps practitioner experience across multiple environments and infrastructures
  • Significant software development, infrastructure or related engineering experience
  • An ability to lead and motivate a small, highly performing technical team
  • Strong knowledge and experience in CNO, SIGINT systems, or similar
  • A desire to work within the NZ Intelligence Community to defend NZ and our interests.

Your breadth of experience will assist you in technically leading our team of DevOps Engineers, working alongside the wider CNO capability development team to solve unique challenges.  If you have been looking for a role where deep technical leadership skills means genuine mission impact, this is it.

As well as interesting work, we offer a range of benefits including:

  • Flexible hours, as your work/life balance is important to us
  • Four weeks annual leave plus some additional days for your wellbeing
  • Gym, social clubs and events
  • Medical insurance and Vision Care package
  • Professional development opportunities - we are committed to ongoing learning and continuous improvement
  • The promise that you never have to take your work home with you

Before you apply

Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.

You must:

  • Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
