Senior Advisor, Cancer Control at Ministry of Health, Wellington

Ko tōu ake mahi - What you'll do
As Senior Advisor, Cancer Control (NCDs), you'll provide expert advice and leadership to support delivery of the Cancer Control Programme Plan, while contributing to the wider NCDs work programme. You'll play a critical role in advancing the Polynesian Health Corridors (PHC) programme, working in partnership with Polynesian countries and regional stakeholders to strengthen systems, build capability, and deliver meaningful, sustainable health outcomes.

  • Provide technical leadership in cancer control, working closely with Polynesian countries, stakeholders, regional development partners, and delivery partners to design and deliver agreed activities.
  • Lead and advise on NCD pillar implementation, with a particular focus on planning and delivery of cancer registry'related initiatives.
  • Manage commissioning activities for the NCD pillar, including procurement processes, contract management, and supplier relationships.
  • Support performance monitoring, evaluation, and reporting, contributing to effective frameworks and robust reporting for the PHC programme.
  • Drive high'quality delivery through collaboration and strong relationships across the Ministry, wider health sector, government, and external partners.
  • Ensure activities are well planned, aligned to PHC tools and methods, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Ko ngā pūkenga ōu - What you'll bring

  • Strong public health and health systems expertise, supported by relevant qualifications and experience across public health, cancer epidemiology, population or global health, health information systems, or related fields.
  • Understanding of cancer control programmes, including prevention, early detection, treatment, and palliative care, with experience in New Zealand and/or Pacific contexts.
  • Experience and knowledge across public health, cancer control, or health systems, including cancer prevention, treatment, and care in NZ and/or the Pacific.
  • Proven ability to lead and deliver complex programmes end-to-end.
  • Understanding of Pacific public health contexts and ability to engage respectfully and collaboratively with stakeholders, to support effective co-design of activities.
  • Strong communication, relationship'building, and organisational skills.
