About the Role

Applications are invited for the position of Neonatal Advanced Trainee within the Waikids Neonatal Child Health department at Waikato Hospital commencing February 2027. This is an opportunity to be part of a progressive team based in a modern tertiary hospital.

This Neonatal Advanced Trainee positionis suitable for advanced paediatric trainees either specialising in neonatology or general paediatrics with a special interest in neonatology. It might also be suitable for a recently qualified paediatrician in the early progessional career.


You will be involved in clinical care and educational activities. Clinical duties will include after hours duties on the Neonatal unit RMO/NP roster, not including nights. The role meets the RACP neonatal advanced training requirements with time accredited for up to 24 months, and incorporates a research/quality improvement component. There might be an opportunity to undertake specific skill acquisition in a subset of neonatal care, eg. Ultrasound, ventilation, research, or further tertiary study qualifications.

About you

As a NICU Advanced Trainee, you need to .

  • Be an Advanced Trainee, registered in a RACP Paediatric division (or equivalent) training programme
  • Have appropriate experience
  • Be interested in broadening your clinical exposure in NICU
  • Be eligible to work in New Zealand, with a practising certificate form the Medical Council of New Zealand.
