About the Role
As a Senior Junior Registrar at Rotorua Hospital, you will work within a recently refurbished childrens unit, managing a wide range of acute and general paediatric presentations. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop clinical confidence and decision-making skills in a supportive, well-supervised environment.
You will be actively involved in patient care from initial assessment through to ongoing management, gaining exposure to a broad case mix including acute admissions, general paediatrics, and neonatal care. Unlike larger centres, you will have consistent access to senior clinicians who are engaged in teaching and available for guidance, allowing you to grow your capability while feeling well supported.
This is a strong developmental role for registrars looking to build a solid foundation in paediatrics, whether you are intending to pursue formal paediatric training or strengthen your generalist experience.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The Paediatric team at Rotorua Hospital is known for its collaborative and supportive culture. The service includes Paediatricians with a range of sub-specialty interests, including neonatal care, community paediatrics, and child mental health, supported by experienced nursing staff and visiting sub-specialists. Teaching and clinical support are embedded into daily practice, and Registrars are well supported in their learning and progression.

About you
As a Paediatric Senior Registrar, you will have:
- Eligibility for General or Provisional General registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- At least 6 months experience in Paediatrics at Senior House Officer or Registrar level.
- Confidence in managing acute presentations with appropriate escalation.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
